Dog Neuter Discharge Instructions

Thank you for bringing %patientname% to God's Dogs Rescue Veterinary Clinic today. He was neutered and is ready to go home!

It is normal for %patientname% to be tired and quiet for the first evening after surgery. His energy level should return to normal by the next day.

Feeding

You may feed %patientname% his normal diet this evening.

Mild Cough or Hoarse Voice

During anesthesia, an endotracheal tube was placed to help him breathe. This can occasionally cause mild throat irritation, which may result in a slight cough or hoarse bark for a short time after surgery. This usually resolves on its own.

Incision Care

Please check the incision site twice daily for:

  • Excessive redness

An E-collar (cone) should be kept on whenever you cannot directly monitor %patientname% to prevent licking or chewing at the incision.

Please watch for the following:

  • Depression or unusual lethargy

  • Loss of appetite

  • Vomiting or diarrhea

  • Signs of pain

  • Discharge or swelling at the surgical site

If you notice any of these signs, please contact us.
